SAMA is pleased to open the 2012  survey on Current Trends & Practices in Strategic Account Management (SAM), a cornerstone of the organization's mission to inform our membership and the larger SAM community about the state of strategic account management programs and practices at leading B2B companies around the world. 


This year's study is conducted in partnership with Walker, a leading research and consulting firm, and is open for free participation by SAMA members and non-members in all geographies. 


Each participant will receive a complimentary electronic copy of the full report,
plus free access to a SAMA conference session video of your choice at
SAMA's Live Learning Center
and entry in a random drawing for a cool prize!

SAM topics covered in the research 
This survey covers SAM practices at both the individual account level and the organizational level, and the report will highlight major linkages or correlations between account/program performance and key SAM elements.  Survey topics include:

  • SAM program characteristics
  • Program management structure & practices
  • Strategic account selection/criteria
  • Program operations and processes
  • Talent management
  • SAM program performance/metrics
  • Account coverage
  • Account management and role of the SAM
  • Account performance/metrics
  • Internal support and alignment
  • Impact on customer satisfaction and loyalty

Eligibility to participate 
Whether your company has a beginning or established strategic customer management organization of any scope (national, regional, international or global), we invite your SAM professionals—management directors, executives and national/global account managers—to contribute their responses.   


You qualify to participate if…


you lead, manage or support your company's national, strategic or global accounts in one of the following roles:

  • Strategic account manager (SAMs) or equivalent
  • Manager of SAMs
  • Strategic accounts program director or equivalent
  • Senior executive sponsor
  • CEO, Chief sales officer, Senior VP of Sales, etc.
  • Other functional role supporting a strategic account or the SAM organization

You do not qualify to participate if…

you are a consultant to the SAM, sales and/or management professions, or do not currently lead, manage or directly support your company's SAM program.  However, we strongly encourage consultants and SAM subject experts to refer their clients with SAM programs and initiatives to this webpage and request to participate.  Although they do not qualify to participate, SAM consultants who are SAMA members will receive a 50% discount off the member price of the full report, upon request.


Broad participation is vital to the adequate collecting of data from SAM organizations worldwide, whether they operate on a regional, national, multinational or global basis.

How long the survey takes 
The survey takes approximately 15-25 minutes to complete.  You may close out of the survey and return to complete at a later time, as long as you complete the entire survey before the end of business on Friday, February 9, 2012.
