While variations exist across different businesses and industries for SAM role requirements, an essential set of core competencies and their related knowledge, skills and behaviors have been shown in a majority of companies to be essential for strategic customer leadership. Upon successful completion of SAMA’s Certification Program, the Certified Strategic Account Manager (CSAM) designation will be awarded. Over this year, SAMA will finalize roll out of our new Strategic Account Management Certification Program to evaluate and certify individuals in the practice of strategic account management.*
This milestone program will include core training to ensure that certified SAMs share a foundational business acumen and elective courses to give SAMs the flexibility to focus on topics relevant to their companies and careers.
The program includes:
- the highest quality workshops and training in strategic account management;
- relevant online learning components designed to reinforce learning and ;
- online and onsite testing to verify knowledge gained;
- on-the-job follow up from SAMA or its affiliates.

Based on SAMA’s tested Knowledge Architecture and years of research, the Certification Program is currently focused on training for Foundational Level Strategic Account Managers. Future programming will include certification for Advanced level SAMs and Program Organizational Design & Management level for executives and SAM program directors.
Pilot classes held at SAMA University sessions Chicago 2010, Atlanta 2011, New York 2011, San Francisco 2011 will qualify participants for credit towards the in-person portion of the program. Participants with partial credit will have the opportunity to fulfill the requirements to get full credit for any pilot classes taken as soon as the online modules are ready.
